Low carb diets are all the rage right now. So what is all the fuss about this diet? For one, limiting your consumption of carbs slims down your body very quickly. In fact, the results from this type of diet can be astounding.
When your body reduces its intake of carbs, it has a direct impact on the glucose or sugar levels in the blood. When you ingest any type of food, the body starts to break it down into simple sugars, proteins and fats. Because sugars provide your body with immediate energy, it is the first energy source that your body uses to provide it with energy.
It takes between 12-20 minutes of exercise to burn off the glucose stores before your body starts to eat away at the fat stores. Once your body burns the fat stores, this is when your body starts to burn fat and melt inches off your body.
Low carb diets on the other hand change the way the body uses glucose energy. Because the sugar levels are already low in the body, when you start to work out, your body starts to burn fat as fuel almost immediately, intensifying your workout efforts.
The most prominent area in which you see noticeable results is your mid-section. Biologically speaking, when excess glucose is not used up in the body, your body will convert this excessive sugar into fat and literally ‘dump’ it around your middle. This explains why people who have a carb addiction usually have big bellies.
Low carb diets typically involve consuming large amounts of protein. This has two advantages. Firstly, protein helps to build and sustain muscles, so is useful if you want a really toned look. Secondly, it helps to boost your metabolism because it is more difficult to digest than other foods and hence your body has to work harder to break it down.
Aim to reduce your overall carb intake and eat at least one carb free meal a day. Coupled with regular exercise, you can have a fantastic body in no time.
